Curiosity Lights the Way

Spotlight Monkey’s mission is to help businesses uncover the hidden gem that transforms their story into a memorable and successful brand.

As a kid, founder Joan O’Connor’s mom would sometimes take drives with no destination in mind. They’d intentionally get lost, following curiosity instead of a map, trusting they’d eventually discover something magical along the way.

That lesson in serendipity shaped Joan’s career. She didn't come from boardrooms or traditional marketing culture. Her Emmy-winning storytelling instincts were refined in nonfiction television, where understanding people wasn't theoretical. It was the job. Finding the emotional thread that made audiences care was essential.

From producing and writing for television to conducting thousands of interviews with celebrities, thought leaders, and everyday individuals, Joan developed a deep understanding of human behavior, motivation, and connection.

Today, that same curiosity shapes how she approaches branding. Instead of forcing surface-level answers, she follows the story where it takes her. She looks closer and pays attention to what others might overlook because the most meaningful insights are found in unexpected places.
